As your Joy Coach, let me say it’s not the absence of sound that you are seeking when you take the second precious pill, the Pill of Silence, but the presence of silence, a presence that underlies all sound. When I get focused on surrounding sounds or, more particularly, my internal chatter, it takes me a long time to hang up my boxing gloves . Whenever I start resisting something, silence is not available to me. Instead I’m in a boxing ring, duking it out in my mind. Sometimes, I’m not even aware that I am resisting. But when I do become aware, when I hang up my boxing gloves, the world of stillness and silence opens up and flows through me.
Does your mind trail off in a million different directions whenever you sit down to be quiet? Can you focus on your breathing and let the silence underlying sound be present in you? Can you just rest there? Try it and don’t give up. Take the precious pill of Silence. It takes a while to get the hang of it.
