When I first started meditating, I wanted to “do it right.” The teachers suggested important features in my posture, in how to sit, many of which I suggest and demonstrate here. Like the good student that I always strived to be, I wanted to learn the fine details. As a result, I put a lot of effort into the process, a bit more effort than was needed. What I have since learned is that sitting upright with my spine open helps me breathe better, but perhaps the most important thing for me is to relax, to just sit quietly, focus on my breathing, and let my body and mind slow down, pause and rest.
