There are many places to connect with your heart and feel wonder, joy, and the immensity of the world around and beyond you. It would be hard to name them all. However, this particular image is based on a spot near an overlook in Shenandoah National Park called Black Rock. Painting is one of my great joys. I went to this spot to learn more about painting, and painting scenes from the natural world. The colors on an outcropping of weathered, lichen-covered rocks inspired me.
When I am in the woods, it seems the wisdom of the woods reveals itself when I sit quietly there. And, I feel particularly connected to my heart there. The silence and vibrancy of life in the forests are magical. When sitting quietly on a rock, like I am doing in this Episode, and just listening–that’s when the unspoken, living presence of the forest presents itself. It is a spontaneous gift.
In what places and settings do you feel a profound sense of aliveness, quiet, and peace?
