Episode 16: Joy Spots a Welcome Gift Box

Joy spots a gift box

So what is it about giving and receiving gifts?  Gifts often come wrapped up in pretty boxes with colorful ribbons, which the kid in me loves to see, but they can also come unadorned.  Sometimes they aren’t even pretty. Most gifts usually contain a surprise, something that is unknown, unanticipated–a mystery. Sometimes we receive welcome gifts, like the little bars of chocolate I have received on my pillow in some hotels  where I have stayed. (I have a weakness for chocolate.) Sometimes I don’t even notice a gift I’ve received.

As a child of the Coach family, birthdays were celebrated with cake and ice cream and a little gift. On those birthdays I didn’t think much about the meaning of my life, or how it was unfolding, like I do now as Joy Coach.  I just looked forward to eating cake and ice cream and opening the gift.  I  don’t celebrate birthdays now in the same way I once did.  However, I do know that birth can be a reason to celebrate. Have you ever considered that every new day is the birth of a day in your life …and a gift?
